Lions Golden at Canadian Masters Championships

It was a golden couple days for the Ottawa Lions at last weekend’s Canadian Indoor Masters Championships in Toronto as the six member team brought home eight gold medals and a bronze. Headlining the groups achievement’s was Wendy Alexis, competing in the women’s 55 category where she took home gold in both the 50m and 60m sprints in record fashion. In the 50m, Alexis’ time of 7.33 seconds better her own Canadian record by 0.03 seconds, while she won the 60m in 8.59 seconds to take down Karla Del Grande’s old meet record of 8.65 set in 2012.
 
Stan Seitz was another double gold medalist, taking home the title in the men’s 65 pole with a 2.85m clearance and scoring 2428 points to capture the five event pentathlon. In the high jump portion of the pentathlon, Seitz cleared a meet record 1.30m. Also taking home gold in the pentathlon was Brian Derby who scored 2500 points to win the men’s 40 category.
 
Rounding out the medalists were sprinter Bernard St. Lewis who captured gold in the M45 50m and followed it up with bronze in the M45 60m. Horizontal jumper Laura Baker captured double gold in the W30 long jump and triple jump with jumps of 4.25m and 9.34m respectively.
