Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

What time is it in Tokyo?

Ottawa is in a near perfect time zone to watch and cheer on our athletes in Tokyo as we are 13 hours behind the Japanese capital. With the morning sessions inside the Olympic Stadium set to commence most mornings at 9 am, it means the athletes will begin competing at 8 pm in Ottawa the night before.

Evening sessions will typically begin around 7pm in Japan, which means early morning viewings as we gather round the television, laptop, or tablet at 6am here in Ottawa.

Example:

Friday July 30 10:25 AM JST = Thursday July 29 9:25 PM EDT

Saturday August 7 9:30 PM JST = Saturday August 7 8:30 AM EDT

How to watch?

As Canada’s host broadcaster, CBC and Radio-Canada, will be the sole source of domestic coverage from Tokyo.

The CBC will be broadcasting 23 hours of daily live coverage throughout the games. However, given their complete coverage, you may not see all athletics events live.

To ensure you do not miss a moment from the track and the field, visit CBC Olympics Live Feed to find the appropriate feed. For coverage from Radio-Canada, you can click here.

What have the Lions done at the Olympics?

We’re happy you ask that question! Lions athletes have made the Olympics every quadrennial since 1988. In total, 17 athletes from the Club have represent Canada, Norway, Dominica, and Cameroon at the Olympic Games, garnering one very famous Olympic gold medal.
